CLUB INFORMATION

FOREWORD
The Rules of The Association of Adelaide Hills Pétanque Incorporated stipulates in Article 5.2(c); “Life membership for meritorious service, as recognised from time to time by the committee, will be recommended to the members and must be approved by them as a resolution at a general meeting. All future membership fees will be waived for life members.”

Life membership is an honour bestowed on individual club members whose exceptional, loyal and meritorious service and contribution has provided a measurable benefit to the club over an extended period of time. It should be recognised as the highest recognition that can be awarded to a member in acknowledgement of exceptional meritorious service and contribution; it should retain its prestige and not be awarded easily.

PROCESSES AND CRITERIA NOMINATION

a) As per the The Rules of The Association of Adelaide Hills Pétanque Incorporated, potential Life Members can be nominated by the Committee from time to time.

b) Nominations can be made by a club member(s) to the Committee, for consideration. The nomination should include the nominator’s reasons for putting forward the nominee and should set out the achievements and activities of the nominee and must show that the award criteria, as set out below, are generally met.

c) Once having received a nomination, a simple majority of a quorum of the Committee is sufficient for the nomination to be pursued. The decisions of the Committee are to be considered to be final on the matter of deciding whether or not to pursue any nomination to a motion to be put to a General Meeting of the club.

d) If an existing Committee member is the nominee, that person must be disqualified from any deliberation on the nomination.

e) In the event that the Committee believes that the nominee is worthy of Life Membership, the Committee will present the nomination to a General Meeting of members for approval.

f) The nominated member may be elected a Life Member of the Club on receiving a majority vote of over 75% of members attending the General Meeting who are in favour of the motion.

g) The voting at this meeting will be by a show of hands.

CRITERIA

To assist with the nomination, some or all of the following criteria should be considered. For any of the relevant criteria, the nominee should have demonstrated an exceptional contribution, and meritorious service beyond the ordinary for an extended period of time, which has a measurable benefit to the club and membership.

a) Minimum of 15 years club membership.

b) Minimum of 10 years in specific roles that contribute to the benefit of the club. These roles may include, but are not to be restricted to; service on committees, leadership, club activities, facility upkeep, coaching or any activities that promote and benefit the club and/or the sport of pétanque.

c) Demonstrated attitude and demeanour that reflects dedication to the values of the club including good sportsmanship.

d) Other specific achievement(s) may be taken into account.

SPECIAL NOTES

a) Life Membership is not automatically given to a spouse. A spouse must be nominated in their own right.

b) Life Membership of Adelaide Hills Pétanque Club may be bestowed posthumously to honour past meritorious service and contribution of a member to the club. The award would be presented to the immediate family of the member.
